Work from home, without the deposit scam
Remote work listings attract the most fraud. The rules here are simple: no deposits, no equipment fees, and the pay is stated.
What is genuinely remote
Data entry, tele-calling, chat support, and some back-office processing can be done from home. Anything requiring onsite machinery, stock handling, or in-person customer contact cannot, whatever the listing claims.
The deposit rule
If a work-from-home job asks you to pay for a laptop, a headset, software, training, or a 'security deposit', it is a fee scam. No legitimate employer charges you to work for them. These listings are not allowed on this site.
What to check before starting
- Is there a written offer naming the employer and the pay?
- Is the work measured in hours or in output? Piece-rate work can pay very little per hour.
- Who provides the equipment, and does it have to be returned?
- How and when is payment made, and is there a payslip?
Realistic pay expectations
Entry-level remote work in India typically sits near the lower end of local wages, because the applicant pool is national. Treat unusually high pay for simple work as a warning, not an opportunity.
Questions people ask
Why do so many work-from-home jobs ask for a fee?
Because the fee is the business. A real employer earns from your work; a scam earns from your registration. That is the whole test.
Do I need my own laptop?
For some roles, yes. The listing says so before you apply. If equipment is provided, the listing states whether it must be returned.
